Weekly Announcements: July 28th, 2019

  • We’ll have our All Church Luncheon today, 7/28 , shortly after the Chinese-Speaking Worship Service at around 12:45 pm. Please stay for the simple lunch prepared for all and enjoy the fellowship with your church family.
  • CUMC would like to sponsor two tables, each cost $1,500/10 people, to support the ministry at the Gum Moon Women’s Hostel at their Dinner. Fund Raising on Saturday, 8/24, at Far East Café, 631 Grant St, in Chinatown. Anyone who would like to support this ministry is welcome to make a check of $150/person payable to CUMC to reserve a seat at the dinner from Rev. Ernest Kan. Please state clearly on the outside of the envelop the donation is for Gum Moon.
  • Friday Fellowship and Cantonese Opera Gospel Choir will meet August 9th, from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm in the Social Hall.
  • The National Chinese Caucus of the United Methodist Church will host the 2019 National Chinese Caucus Leadership Conference/Convocation on 10/18-20 at Queens Village Church (220-20 94th Drive, Queens Village, NY 11428). The theme is on “Forming the Leadership of a New Generation”. The Early Bird registration fee is $100.00/person.
  • The Church Picnic will be on Saturday, September 7th, at Frontierland Park, 900 Yosemite Dr., Pacifica, CA. It will be from 10am – 3pm. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children, and free for children under the age of 5.

Weekly Announcements: July 14th, 2019

  • Please be advised that the Gum Moon need rehearsal space on Monday, 7/15, Tuesday, 7/ 16, Wednesday 7/17 and Friday, 7/19. They will be in the Chapel. The time is about 10 am to 5 pm.

Weekly Announcements: July 7th, 2019

  • We are having the Sunday School Promotion Ceremony today, July 7th, starting at 10:30 am in the Social Hall. We would like to recognize the students who are graduating from the various classes in our Sunday School Program, which is approximately 50 strong right now. We welcome your support and invite you to bring your kids to come to our Sunday School Program. All are welcome to participate.
  • On Saturday, July 13th, from 5:30 – 9:00 pm, we shall have a “Grad Night” in honor of Class 2019 Graduates. Come and celebrate our graduates this year as they move on to their next phase in life. Please let Mr. Brandon Wong or Mr. Tobin Lau know if you are coming by July 5th as we need a headcount for food and seating. Parents of graduates are cordially invited. Helpers are needed.

Weekly Announcements: June 30th, 2019

  • The Administrative Board is going to meet today, 6/30, at 1:00 pm. in the chapel. Lunch will be provided.
  • The Sunday School will have the Class Promotion Sunday Service on July 7 at 10:00 am at Social Hall. Please come and support our children. We will have the Combined Chinese Sunday Service at 11:00am.

  • The Bishop together with her cabinet appointed Rev. Ernest Kan back to our church from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.
  • Celia and Ernest Kan will be attending the Sacramento Riverside UMC retreat in Lake Tahoe. Mrs. Celia Kan will be the Chinese group speaker and Rev. Ernest Kan will be the English Group speaker. Please pray for them.

Weekly Announcements: May 26th, 2019

  • The worship team is welcoming people to help serve this summer. If interested, please send an email titled “Worship” with your preferred contact info, Sunday availability (from June 16th to August 18th) and what you want to do. This includes instrumentals, vocals, AV, and slides. Send the email to Brandon ( brandonjwong@berkeley.edu) and “CC” Johnny ( johnny.lau@sbcglobal.net). More information to follow for those interested.
  • The All Church Retreat will be running from 6/6, Thursday to 6/9, Sunday at Redwood Glen (100 Wright Dr, Loma Mar CA 94021). The Chinese speaker is Rev. Walter Leung. The English speaker is Daniel Lowe. After graduated from the Fullers Theological Seminary in Los Angeles, Pastor Daniel Lowe is serving as the pastor of the Living Stone Christian Church in Milpitas. For details, please see the registration form on the top of the water dispenser in the library .
  • The Chinese congregation is hosting the Breakfast Fundraising event for the Church Retreat today from 9:15 am. Many thanks to the brothers and sisters who make it possible
  • The Adult Fellowship will have a fellowship luncheon meeting today the Social Hall. Luncheon fee will be $5.00 each. We also will have Birthday party for those who were born in the second quarter of the year. Members please come. Members are also invited to stay at church to attend the Talk hosted by the Chinese Christian Union. The theme is ’Christianity in today’s China.’
  • We are going to work with Self-help for the Elderly to host the Seismic Safety Outreach Program on 6/2 from 2:00-3:30PM. Those who can finish the whole course will receive a certificate and a earthquake survival kit as gift.
  • The Samuel Fellowship meeting is going to have a fruit picking picnic in the City of Brentwood. Please contact Mr. Brendan Huang for detail.
  • The 2019 Cal-Nev Annual Conference of the UMC will be held from Wednesday, June 19 to 22nd at Double Tree Hotel at Modesto. We have Mr. Brendan Huang, Mr. Ken Yee and Rev Ernest Kan as one of the delegates. Please pray for them.

If interested, please send an email by May 26th titled “Worship” with your preferred contact info, tentative availability (for every Sunday date), and what you want to do. This includes instrumentals, vocals, AV, and slides. Send the email to Brandon and Johnny. Questions, comments, or concerns can be directed to Brandon.
  • The Samuel Fellowship meeting is going to have fruit pricking on Saturday, 5/11, in Brentwood. Please sign up your name with Brendan or Esther Huang.
  • The All Church Retreat will be running from 6/6, Thursday to 6/9, Sunday. The Chinese speaker is Rev. Walter Leung who is the Chinese Christian Herald Center. The English speaker is Pastor Daniel Lowe. After graduating from the Fullers Theological Seminary in Los Angeles, Pastor Daniel Lowe is serving as the pastor of the Living Stone Christian Church in Milpitas. Please save the date and pray for the planning committee.

CUMC’s 2019 Summer Daycamp VBS sign-up form is available now! The one-week program is from July 29th – August 2nd.

Weekly Announcements: April 28th, 2019

  • This summer, we will be offering a Vacation Bible School (VBS) for one week from, July 29th to Friday August 2nd, from 9am to 3pm. The fee is $20 per child from Kindergarten through 8th grades. We will be looking for volunteers to provide lunches for that week and for leaders. More information will come as we know more.
  • Our English Congregation will have the Wheel of Fortune night for this month’s game night. Join us for dinner and a night of fun on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Dinner will start at 6pm and Wheel of Fortune will begin shortly after. Please RSVP by Thursday, May 2nd, so we can have a headcount for dinner.
  • The All Church Retreat will be running from 6/6, Thursday to 6/9, Sunday. The Chinese speaker is Rev. Walter Leung and the English speaker is Pastor Daniel Lowe. After graduated from the Fullers Theological Seminary in Los Angeles, Pastor Daniel Lowe is serving as the pastor of the Living Stone Christian Church in Milpitas. Please save the date and pray for the planning committee.
  • Our Church will hold jointly a workshop with the Chinese Christian Herald Crusade on Saturday, 5/4, at 2:30PM in the sanctuary. The seminar is “How to prevent your children from being a Drug Addict”. This is an one of the outreaching program of the Church. Please spread the news and invite your Chinese speaking friends to come.
  • We are going to work with Self-help for the Elderly to host the Seismic Safety Outreach Program on 5/5, 5/19 and 6/2 from 2:00-3:30PM. Those who can finish the whole course will receive a certificate and a earthquake survival kit as gift.
  • Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño will be in San Francisco on April 28th from 7-9:30 pm at Temple UMC (1111 Junipero Serra Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94132) for the post General Conf, briefing. You are welcome to attend.

Weekly Announcements: March 10th, 2019

  • We would like to thank Mr. Sau-Wing Lam for coming today, 3/10. to share with us about the gospel of Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless him and his family. After his early retirement from the banking industry at the age of 45, Mr. Sau-Wing Lam devoted his time to help the Chinese immigrants in the financial management through the radio and TV broadcast. He also involves in preaching the gospel wherever he was available.
  • We will have the Joint Choir singing on Easter Sunday (4/21). The Joint Choir will be conducted by Mr. Sidney Wong. Starting from today. Please join the rehearsal every Sunday, from 12:45—1:30 pm in the Sanctuary.

  • The All Church Retreat will be running from 6/6, Thursday to 6/9, Sunday. The speaker is Rev. Victor Chan who was the founder of the East Bay Alliance Church. He is now retired and is teaching in the Theological Seminary as guest professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After graduated from the Fullers Theological Seminary in Los Angeles, Mr. Daniel Lowe is serving as the pastor of the Living Stone Christian Church in Milpitas. Please save the date and pray for the planning committee.
  • The Methodist Fellowship Group will meet on 3/24 at the Chapel. Members please mark your calendar.
  • The Bay Area District of the Annual Conference will hold the 2nd meeting on Training & Ministry Action Plan Orientation at San Leandro First UMC from 9-3pm on Saturday, 3/30. Mrs. Christin Wong and Pastor Kan will attend to share our plan. We are in the process of inviting representatives from the Chinese and English congregations. You are welcome to volunteer. Please pray.
  • The Board of Directors of the Chinese Christian Union will meet at the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown on Tuesday, 3/19, at 2:00 PM. Mr. Thomas Xiao, Mrs. Betty Chia and Rev. Ernest Kan are our delegates. Rev. Ernest Kan will be the acting Chairman for the meeting.

Weekly Announcements: March 3rd, 2019

  • We will have the Joint Choir singing on Easter Sunday (4/21). The Joint Choir will be conducted by Mr. Sidney Wong. Starting from today. Please join the rehearsal every Sunday, from 12:45—1:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
  • As a member of the Chinese Christian Union San Francisco, we are going to support their Cemetery Ministry by donating our Charity Fund from January to March. Please write check payable to our church ’CUMC’.
  • The 2019 BASS Church Workers Convention will be held in Castro Valley, CA from March 8-9. Please use the following code to use on the BASS Website (https://bassconvention.org/express_pass.cfm) to print out your Express Pass and Name Badge. Cut out the Name Badge, bring it to the convention and BASS will provide the plastic sleeves when you arrive here. The Chinese United Methodist Church code is PMMDC.
