Weekly Announcements: September 17th, 2017

  • The Board of Directors of the Chinese Christian Union will meet at the Independent Baptist Church on September 19, 2017 at 2:00PM. Mrs. Betty Chia, Mr. Thomas Xiao, and Rev. Ernest Kan are our delegates.
  • The 10th Comprehensive Art Class session began on Sept 2, 2017 to December. Class hours are every Saturday from 10:30AM to 12:00PM, total of 12 weeks. Please contact Ernest Huang for more info. 
  • We’ll have our All-Church Luncheon today after the Chinese-Speaking Worship Service at approximately 12:45PM. Please stay for the simple lunch prepared for all and enjoy the fellowship with your church family.
  • We are collecting donations to support the hurricane victims. Please write down “Church Fund – Hurricane Victims” on the envelopes. Please write the check payable to “CUMC. Donations will then be collected and sent to the UMCOR to help the victims. 
  • Nominating Committee will meet on 10/1 at 1:00PM in the Chapel. Members of the committee are Ms. Christie Ng, Mrs. Miranda Wong, Mrs. Donna Yee, Mrs. Gayle Kong, Miss Katrina Sun, Mrs. Holly Yee, Mrs. Dianne Wong, Mr. James Huang, Mrs. Josephine Wong, and Rev. Ernest Kan (Chair).
  • We will host the Mid-Autumn Festival in our church on 10/1 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. We want to outreach to the community and preach the gospel to them. We will have game booths: art, ping pong ball in bucket, rings in bottle, marble in water with chopsticks. We will also have snacks and drinks. For details and volunteering, please contact Mr. Edward Wong. Please pray and invite your family and friends to come.
  • The Methodist Fellowship will meet on 10/8 in the Chapel from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. 
  • There will be free flu shots on September 24th from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at our church.

Taking a Look Back: July BBQ 2017

The post-college group, Corem Deo, has been hosting monthly events for church members to get together and enjoy each others’ company. For the month of July, they organized a July 4th BBQ that included a bunch of food and fun activities. Led by Joshua and Stephanie, they cooked a bunch of hotdogs, burgers, and chili for everyone to enjoy. There was also an intense game of kickball involved!

  • There will be a prayer meeting at the Chinese worship service every Sunday. If you would like to participate, please gather in the chancel area of the sanctuary. There are yellow prayer request cards at the back of the pew. Please write your prayer request and place it in the offering plate or give it to an usher for the Prayer Team and Pastor.
  • Only July 8th, from 5:30 – 9:00pm, we shall have a Grad Night in honor of Class of 2017. Come and celebrate our graduates this year as they move on to their next phase in life. Please let Joshua Wong know if you are coming by July 1st as we need a headcount for food and seating. Parents of graduates are cordially invited.
  • The Sunday School will have the Promotion Sunday on July 9 at 10:00am at Social Hall. Parents are invited to come and to support your children. We will have the Combined Chinese Sunday Service at 11:00am.
  • The English Missions Committee will meet today at 2:00pm in the 4th floor.
  • The Methodist Fellowship Group will meet today in the Chapel at 2:00pm. Members please come.
  • The Bishop together with her cabinet appointed Rev. Ernest Kan back to our church.
  • As a result of traffic rearrangement caused by the Pride Parade. Ms. Monica Le cannot come to the church to prepare our lunch. Therefore, the Luncheon Fellowship is going to be postponed later. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  • There is a hearing on the opening of medical marijuana outlet (MCD) at 2505 Noriega Street in San Francisco. We have members living in tis area who might be affected by this presence. The Chinese Christian Union has learnt about this issue and would encourage member churches to voice out our view on these. Please use the information inserted in this program to voice your concern.

Summer Retreat 2017

Summer is almost here so that means retreat is right around the corner. Our retreat location this year will be held at Redwood Christian Park. It will be from August 6th – 9th (Sunday – Wednesday) so please mark your calendars down!

  • Next Sunday is our Father’s Day Sunday Service. We are going to have a joint service for the Chinese groups, the 10:15am and 11:30am. The joint Chinese service will be at 11:00am.
  • Church Retreat Fundraising will service English Breakfast on June 18th, from 10:00am. Please reserve the date.
  • Summer Church Retreat will be held from August 6 to 9 at Redwood Christian Park. Miss Katrina Sun is the Chairperson of the Retreat. Please pray for the committee. The speaker for the Chinese group will be Rev. Homan Yeung and the speaker for the English group will be Pastor Tim Leung. Please pray.
  • The Luncheon Fellowship will be on 6/25 after the 11:30am Chinese-Speaking Worship Service. Please mark your calendar and plan to stay for the fellowship with your church family.
  • The Chinese Mission Committee is going to have an Evangelistic Meeting Meeting at Dr. Daniel Wu’s house on July 29 in the afternoon. Please save the date.

Last Sunday, the Administrative Council approved Ms. Monica Le to be the Vice-President of the Council, Mr. Brendan Huang and Mr. Ken Yee to be our delegates to the 2017 Cal-Nev Annual Conference of the CUMC which will be held from Wednesday, June 21 to 24 at Hyatt Regency of Burlingame.

CLAM (Conference Lay Minister) is a ministry to support the local church ministries. Faithful and committed members of the church are encouraged to be trained as Lay Ministers to help their local churches, or other local churches in the Annual Conference to do the ministry. The Cantonese CLAM program will be taken care by Rev. Ernest Kan. The Cantonese training program will be held on every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 10-12pm.

The San Francisco Chinese Christian Union (SFCCU) will have monthly meeting on 5/16 from 2:00-4:00pm in Cumberland Chinese Presbyterian Church in Chinatown. Mrs. Betty Chia, Mr. Thomas Xiao, and Rev. Ernest Kan are our delegates.

The Women Association of the San Francisco Chinese Christian Union will host a retreat on Saturday, 5/27, from 10:30am to 2:00pm at the First Chinese Baptist Church at 1 Waverly Place, Chinatown. Rev. Ernest Kan is the key-note speaker. The theme is “The Place of a Woman in the Bible.” There will be luncheon and the ticket is $3 each. Please get the ticket from Mrs. Betty Chia. Please pray.

Spring Festival 2017

 

Spring is finally here! We will be celebrating the season by having our annual Spring Festival! There is no entry fee and all the activities are FREE! This event is perfect for kids of all ages, so come join us for an afternoon of arts & crafts, food, and fun.

  • We will have the Joint Choir singing on Easter Sunday. The Joint Choir will be conducted by Mrs. Celia Kan. Please join the rehearsal every Sunday, from 12:30—1:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Please note that today we have special rehearsal for tenor and base.
  • The Missions Committee will meet today at 2:00 pm in the 4th floor.
  • Wesley Parents Fellowship will meet today at 2:00 pm in the Social Hall.
  • The 2017 Spring Fest will be held on Saturday, March 25th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Social Hall. Please see Eugene Wong if you are available to help.
  • Our Church will have the Summer Day Camp Program from June 5th to July 21st. Class sessions will be from 9:00 am -3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, a total of 7 weeks/sessions.   • Miss Jean Lee fell on Stockton St at the church entrance. She was taken to the General Hospital and had surgery on her left leg which was broken. She is doing fine. Please pray for her.
